Monthly Archives: February 2010

We are still here. I just spent two VERY long days at the neurologist/Children’s Hospital. Our schedule is all messed up. Don’t have any answers. Will post more later. I am so very tired. Thank you for your prayers.

Supposed to

This is what I’ve been finding myself saying lately (in regards to questions about Kanon)….

-We were supposed to have Kanon’s hearing test and hearing aid fitting on January 5, but the office messed up the schedule so the hearing test didn’t get done (the appointment had been made for 2 months!). The hearing aid fitting was completed. Along with picking out what color hearing aid we wanted.

-We were supposed to have an appointment of February 3 to get the hearing aid. The woman had a sick child and had to cancel all her appointments. The rest of the office was already booked for the rest of the month.

-We were supposed to go at 8 am this morning to get his hearing aid, but we were/are in a winter storm warning. And when the warning statement reads, “Only travel if it is an emergency. If you must travel, take an extra flashlight, food, and water,” then a hearing aid doesn’t really seem that big of a deal.

So one day, Kanon will get his hearing aid. Maybe. And I will stop saying “supposed to” (is that even correct?) because if we were really supposed to, then we would have. And we didn’t. So we really weren’t supposed to.

And a picture of that sweet guy. An old one. But one of my favorites. Have I told you how much we love him?

The Winner!!!

I had so much fun reading your favorite birthday memories. It brought back many memories for me too! I guess I should have left the giveaway up longer so I would have more to read. Oh well. And I guess I should share my favorite birthday memory.

My favorite birthday party is probably my 5th grade year party when I had an American Girl party. Everybody dressed up as their favorite American girl. Then we did things like cook some recipes out of my American Girl cookbook. Then we made homemade paints out of leaves and flowers and berries and such. And then we painted pillow cases (with store-bought paint) that my mom had drawn and screen printed on a pillow case. Such fun memories!

My birthday yesterday was great fun too. Playtime with my babes. Mark driving me around to pick up a few things I needed for projects. Phone calls from friends and family. 3 different package deliveries! Lunch from Jimmy John’s. Dinner from Texas Roadhouse (to feel like we were in Texas for just a moment). An ice cream cake from Graeter’s. And a wonderful family who loves me!

And now for the winner……

Heidi!!! Congratulations!! Your book is on its way!

A Quarter

Today is my birthday. Twenty-five years ago today my mom drove herself to the hospital in the snow. Snow in Texas. And I was born- a month early. And my dad couldn’t get my mom any flowers for 3 days because everything was closed due to the snow. So much has happened in 25 years! Life seemed to be so slow and long at first and then it just seemed to get faster and faster- more like a vapor. I’m sure it will continue to feel that way. It has been a good 25 years. I thought I would be so much further along, and yet I never thought I’d be this far. I have an amazing husband and 3 wonderful children. I am doing what I always dreamed of doing. And it’s a wonderful life!

So in celebration, let’s do another giveaway! (They’re so much fun!) I have an extra copy of Noel Piper’s Treasuring God in Our Traditions. It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but I remember that it had great ideas for making all different holiday traditions more Christ centered. It also made me think, and continue to think up, new traditions to start. It’s a thin little book. And if you already have it, then you could give it to somebody else. I think it makes a great newlywed gift. So just leave me a comment telling me your favorite birthday story, something that happened this weekend, something funny, something random, just tell me something. And I’ll pick a winner tonight after the kids go to bed, and I’ll announce it in the morning!

Oh, and Friday our couch still looked like this. Maybe a couple of bottom cushions will get made this week.

And I’ll leave you with a few pics of the cutest baby in the world. I’m loving him so much. In the past few weeks he has really started to get some chub on his thighs- totally love it. Has started chewing on everything, including his thumb- might be a possible thumb sucker. Rolls over. And grabs his feet constantly  while laying on his back.
